History Christian Dior was born in 1905 and passed all his childhood, to Normandy, with of his parents. In 1928, he opened a picture gallery and exposed works of very large artists such as Picasso, El Salvador Dali, Jean Cocteau, etc… but alas, his parents were ruins by the stock exchange crash of 1929 and it had to close his gallery. Later, about 1935, he learned the techniques from the drawing of fashion and sold his sketches to some large dressmakers. By 1938 he had turned to dress design but because of his tour of duty in World War II, he was not able to develop his design business until 1946.
On his return, he joined to Lucien Lelong, very famous dressmaker of this time. He drew the future collections during several seasons. In 1946, he left Lucien Lelong and founded his own couture house to the 30 Montaigne Avenue in Paris. In 1947, he showed his first collection. It was a true revolution. Christian Dior have invented the style « New-look », round shoulders, fine size with loose skirt in the shape of corolla at 20 centimeters of the ground. With Christian Dior, Paris became again the city of the world or were born the most beautiful dresses.
In the United States, the dressmaker received the Oscar of the mode, but successes would not have been complete without the creation of his house of perfume and the appearance of his first fragrance called « MISS DIOR » (1947). This perfume will be marketed, at the beginning, in a Baccarat bottle in form of amphora. Later, one will find it in a bottle or will appear the hound's-tooth reason for Tweed.
Christian Dior virtually dictated fashion styles in the 1950’s. He pioneered license agreements in the fashion business. In 1953, he hired Yves Saint- Laurent as an assistant. Saint- became head designer after Dior’s untimely death in 1957. Christian Dior is most distinctly recognised today as a brand of purfume which is famous the world over.
